Perhaps if we trained gynecologists to lay down square knots with the index finger, instead of grannies with the long finger, their morbidity might be minimal. After all has been said about this issue in the last 10 days, we really should be pressing for a level 1 study. If this was a cooperative venture, we'd have statistically valid results, probably in 10 yrs or less.

Nice review article, but it does not address the question of whether it would be a good idea for the general surgeon to remove the ovaries whenever he or she can without significantly increasing OR time, cost, surgical risk and incision length. We are still left with the question of whether taking out the ovaries when we take out the gallbladder or appendix or do a colectomy for diverticular disease, etc. would benefit the patient.
