Сomplications of blood transfusions in reference to domestic animals - Ärzteforum

Does anyone have any information, or know of where i can find any information online as to the complexities of blood transfusions in reference to domestic animals and why they are not intolerent to other animal's blood (within the same species) and why they can only recieve a number of transfusions before their bodies show signs of tolerence.

Domestic animals such as the dog are for the most part devoid of clinically significant alloantibodies unless they have prior sensitization (transfusion). A small number of animals will have antibodies to certain erythrocyte antigens. In contrast, many cats have preexisting alloantibodies. Further, certain dogs are considered universal donors whereas there is no universal cat.
